In this day and age, we all want to stand out and be different by generating a fresh idea and uncovering a fast easy way to become a millionaire. God, glory, and gold have been our nation’s exploration slogan for years still empowering people to try and accomplish what we now call the American dream. This dream, although possible, is rare and doesn’t just happen overnight. With so many ideas outing the world it seems almost impossible to stand out as something original. Some people say you have to be born originally in order to be one. However, I believe that there are still many ways for each of us to become original through authenticity, drive, and failure.

Authenticity is defined as being true to one’s own personality, spirit, or character. To be an original you have to be true to yourself. Seek to understand your desired goals and dreams to stay true to who you are. Once you discover these aspects you use them to shape how you are an original. Ask yourself what experience and perspective do you bring to the world that can set you apart from your competitors? This aspect of being an original should transfer into everything you do from your business to your everyday life so that you can create consistency. Drive or Grit to do or create something is the online way you can perform at a higher quality. Your IQ score or level of education, although an accomplishment does not correlate fully to your ability to succeed. Angela Duckworth My research focuses on two traits that predict achievement: grit and self-control. Grit is the tendency to sustain interest in and effort toward very long-term goals. If you don’t have the grit or drive to continue to try, that is when you give up on being an original. Failure may seem like a long shot but I would simply have to disagree. Failure is defined as “a lack of success.” That means to me that whenever you fail you can learn from your mistakes and try again. I find it hard to believe that any original idea was conceived without some type of failure. Thomas Edison Edison failed 10,000 times before perfecting the incandescent electric light bulb. He so famously quoted “our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” So I encourage you to go and fail, learn from your mistakes, and eventually discover what makes you an original.
